Cooking with orange, or any fruit, can implicitly make you think about sweets and desserts. In terms of fruit, there is life beyond juices, cakes and pastries!

Orange Vinaigrette

There’s nothing better than fresh dishes in order to enjoy all the properties of our fruits. That´s why, a list of orange recipes recommendations, should start with the grassroots: salads. In addition to the already classic resource of chopping a few orange segments as an ingredient for our salads, a delicious way to integrate this magnificent fruit can be by making a vinaigrette: orange juice base, a few tablespoons of olive oil, a couple tablespoons of balsamic vinegar, mustard, honey and freshly ground fresh pepper. It's finger-licking good!

Duck à l’Orange

If there’s a meat that pairs perfectly with orange, it is undoubtedly duck. A well-known recipe in French cuisine, it is simpler than it may seem, and brings surprising and delicious results. The procedure is the same as for cooking an oven baked chicken, but altering some ingredients: we fill the duck with several previously macerated orange segments (brandy is a good option), we salt it and then pour a mix of olive oil and the broth of the maceration over it. Once cooked, we will serve it with a sweet- and-sour sauce made from oranges, vinegar and sugar. We will also use this sauce halfway through cooking to smear it over the duck. Delicious!

Orange Pesto

Pesto, one of the most universal sauces from Italian cuisine, can also be made with orange, adding an interesting citrus touch to the original. To do so, we can add the zest of an orange peel and a tablespoon of its juice to the base of basil, olive oil and cheese. This pesto is ideal for almost anything: as a pasta dish sauce, to add a nice touch to any meat or even as the base for croquettes.

Sea Bass with Orange

Fish is often cooked or seasoned with lemon, as lemon is the perfect complement to its flavour. And, for this recipe, orange works the same way. Fresh sea bass, emperor fish or turbot, may prove extremely delicious when mixed with orange, following an ancient and simple technique similar to En papillote. We’ll need to wrap the fish in a heat resistant paper, season it properly and add some orange slices. The result is a fresh dish with a recognizable touch.

Homemade Barbecue Sauce

If there’s a culinary preparation that can be applied to any sort of dishes and occasions, that is of course, a sauce. It is ideal with meat, fish, and sandwiches, to dip in any appetizer or even as a base for pizza. This Orange Barbecue Sauce is delicious and really easy to make at home with few ingredients: mix tomato sauce or Ketchup with mustard, sugar, onion, salt, pepper, oregano, garlic and, of course, orange juice. It can be done in a minute, only make sure you keep trying it during the process in order to adjust the proportions and achieve the desired flavour. You can varnish a baked rib with, it tastes spectacular!
