  • 02 July 2019

Summer is here! With its many hours of sun, high temperatures and free time for those of have the chance to enjoy vacations. Even if you have to keep on working, it is a perfect time to practice a healthy lifestyle and consume fruit. Of all the available choices and possibilities, there is one that stands out for its ability to refresh: orange juice. Who does not long for a glass of freshly pressed and cold orange juice?

Everybody loves it, or so do the statics show us. The healthy lifestyle habits are here to stay. Orange is no exception. The latest studies have revealed that orange consumption in Spain is about 5Kg yearly per capita, and that a 20% of this intake are table oranges and an 80% is through drinking the juice of oranges destined to be pressed.

At GAMBIN we know that Navel oranges are the main variety for their size and quality, as they also extend throughout the largest harvesting time within the citrus season. But when their time is past, summer oranges takes over. The most demanded type by consumers and the most suitable variety at that time of year is the Valencia Late, queen of summer.

The Valencia Late, or ‘Valencias’ as they are known by farmers, is the ultimate variety to be harvested in Spain, as they will stay in trees for two more months, eventually being harvested in June. Their name reflects that it is a ‘late’ variety, describing its appearance in the season.

Valencia Lates have a high concentration of juice and an excellent flavour, they have also a slight tangy taste which makes them perfect for industrialization. These are juicy oranges with a sweet taste and a superior acidity level compared to the Navel Lane Late variety, although they remain somewhat smaller, having an intermediate size and a round shape.

Characteristics of Valencia Late oranges

The Valencia Late does not resist low temperature on trees. This is why its production cycle starts in April. Its skin is orange and thin, with a vaguely rugged appearance. The orange flesh is fine and evenly coloured. It withstands conservation and transport in optimal conditions, which makes it one of the most appreciated varieties on a global scale with a prominent juice level.

At GAMBÍN we produce, select and transport the best Valencia Lates with utmost dedication and care. It is for this reason why clients from distinct geographical locations, both nationally and internationally, order us these oranges. Especially in Italy, in France, in Poland and in the Czech Republic, these oranges are highly demanded. Are you going to resist the refreshing essence of GAMBÍN’s Valencia Late?
